Welcome to my blog. I document my adventures in travel, style, and food. Hope you have a nice stay!
My name is Nate Phipps, I have taught at MIT in some capacity since 2013. My entree to design was through the outdoor industry at NEMO Equipment; I love surfing, spear fishing, mountain biking and climbing. At NEMO I developed an interest in textiles which lead me to do soft robotics research at Harvard’s Wyss institute, Biodesign Lab. Currently, along with teaching I do contract design work for startups and local businesses. I also love home renovations and decorating and I own/operate several rentals in Watertown. My favorite tools are my two bosch drivers because nothing is more satisfying than when the pieces of a project are coming together.
I hail from southeast Pennsylvania, while most of my very large (35 aunts/uncles and 48 cousins) extended family lives in eastern Massachusetts. My favorite place on earth is the Sierra Nevada. My best adventure yet was a bike tour from Tangier to Casablanca. I’m deeply interested in epistemology, spirituality, and human evolution.
